Approaches cities can take
Cities can take a variety of steps to improve their residents’ financial health. Broad-based strategies from workforce development to affordable housing are critical in this effort and can be enhanced alongside programs and policies that focus more directly on residents’ financial health.
The following approaches are targeted to the needs, strengths, and challenges of this peer group. Residents’ needs are diverse, and cities can tailor these broad strategies to their own local settings. Strategies targeted to other peer groups may still be useful for all cities.
